Peter Sutherland is an American artist whose practice regularly explores the various levels of urban decay and degradation as well as a specific nostalgia for his life as a young American. Closely associated with the Still House Group, his works are deeply honest, as they contemplate the various accidents, regardless of importance or futility, that make life interesting. Additionally, his works offer a finely-tuned and well-honed encapsulation of the American ethos, by which he collages his own photographs with works mined from Pop art and cult imagery. His works presumably offer a genuine account of the seemingly prevailing pan-national identity and a greater collective consciousness via his highly-worked, saturated, and monochromatic canvases. Sutherland currently lives and works in New York City.

We suggest checking out both his website and blog which can be found here: www.petersutherland.com
